St. John to Host Free Cancer Symposium for Health Care Professionals

Physicians, nurses and allied health professionals are invited to attend St. John Medical Center’s 2014 cancer symposium, “Current Trends in the Treatment of Colorectal Cancer,” offered to provide state-of-the-art information related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer.

The annual event is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in lower-level classrooms A and B in the Mary K. Chapman Health Plaza, 1819 E. 19th St. The symposium will feature lectures and a panel discussion centered around colorectal cancer, as well as informational booths. Presenters include:

  • Steven Hunt, M.D., associate professor of surgery at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis
  • Rodney Clingan, M.D., FACS, colorectal surgeon with Greater Tulsa Colon & Rectal Surgery at St. John Medical Center and associate clinical professor at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine
  • Tanyanika Phillips, M.D., MPH, hematologist/oncologist at St. John LaFortune Cancer Center
  • Richard Ruben, M.D., hematologist/oncologist at St. John LaFortune Cancer Center
  • Frederick Willison, M.D., medical director of the St. John LaFortune Cancer Center Radiation Oncology Department and St. John CyberKnife Center

Accreditation

St. John Medical Center is accredited by the Oklahoma State Medical Association to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and nursing credits will be offered.
