St. John, Tulsa Cancer Institute to Form Joint Venture
New partnership to provide comprehensive oncology services for Oklahomans
Tulsa, Okla. (Nov. 13, 2015) — Tulsa Cancer Institute (TCI) and St. John Health System have announced they are collaborating to form a joint venture named Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute, to launch in late February. Together, they will provide comprehensive, personalized oncology services to patients in Oklahoma and the region.
"St. John and TCI share the same passion and values, and we are both committed to providing exemplary cancer care across the continuum of patients' treatment and survivorship," said David Pynn, president and CEO of St. John. "St. John sought out TCI because of its reputation throughout the region as a leading oncology group. Together as Oklahoma Cancer Specialists, we will have expanded resources and services to help patients throughout their journey."
The new practice will provide outpatient oncology services at current TCI facilities. TCI conducts operations primarily in Tulsa at 12697 E. 51st St. South. TCI also offers services at the Skin Cancer Center in Tulsa at 8803 S. 101st East Ave. and in community cancer centers in Bartlesville, McAlester and Stillwater. Outpatient oncology services currently provided at St. John will transition to TCI's main campus, while patients can continue to receive hospital services, select radiation therapy services and other services at St. John Medical Center, 1923 S. Utica Ave.
"With combined expertise, resources and technology, our collaboration with St. John will give cancer patients access to the region's most comprehensive care and best clinical research," said Daron Street, M.D., TCI president. "It will provide patients the largest group of physicians in the state with the American Society of Clinical Oncology's Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) certification. This collaboration will strive to provide the most cost-effective, highest quality care in Oklahoma."
Suanne Gersdorf, CEO of TCI, stated, "We are pleased to work together to provide the very best in clinical care, strengthened by both progressive research and support services, in an organization led by physicians who have provided cancer care to patients in Oklahoma for more than 40 years."
As St. John expands its oncology physician network, the combined resources of TCI and St. John through Oklahoma Cancer Specialists will offer unparalleled cancer care to Oklahoma residents here at home. St. John plans to expand its existing quality and best practices relationship with MD Anderson Cancer Network®, a program of MD Anderson Cancer Center, by completing the quality certification process with TCI and Oklahoma Cancer Specialists. In addition to being Oklahoma's first and only certified member of the network, St. John's oncology program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons and offers robust surgical oncology services, educational programs and support groups, and eastern Oklahoma's only STAR Program for survivor rehabilitation.
Oklahoma Cancer Specialists is anticipated to formally open in late February 2016. Until then, services will continue to be provided independently by TCI and St. John as the new team prepares to take its state-of-the-art programs to the next level.
