JPMC Offers Inpatient Dialysis
Jane Phillips Medical Center has entered into an agreement to provide inpatient dialysis services for those seeking all types of treatment. The agreement is with nationally-known Fresenius Medical Care. Fresenius serves chronic dialysis patients who are medically stable and who are at JPMC for care unrelated to renal failure. Patients can receive dialysis without leaving the hospital.
JPMC has long offered outpatient dialysis, but until recently, if those patients required admission to the hospital they had to be transferred to another facility. Now, inpatient dialysis can be performed for those patients in need.
“This is a community service to meets the needs of those who come to us for care and avoid their having to be transported elsewhere,” said JPMC Vice President of Nursing Susan Herron.
The service is available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. It is staffed by two registered nurses and supervised by the board certified nephrologists with Nephrology Associates, Inc. This is the same group of specialty physicians that currently supervises JPMC’s outpatient dialysis unit.
When a chronic dialysis patient is admitted to JPMC, the admitting physician will ask for a nephrology consultation. The nephrologist will then coordinate the orders for inpatient dialysis treatment.
