St. John expands gastrointestinal services with local partnership
New alignment adds eight physicians, surgical center
(Tulsa, Oklahoma ) Sept. 26, 2018 — St. John Health System has expanded its gastrointestinal services through a formal partnership with Gastroenterology Specialists Inc. (GSI) effective this month. The partnership adds eight board certified gastroenterologists and a support team of nurse practitioners a registered dietician nutritionist and a surgical center to the gastrointestinal resources available to St. John patients. GSI provides services at 10210 E. 91st St.
“Both St. John and GSI have a mission to deliver the highest quality and safety to our patients so this formalized relationship is a natural pairing,” said Michael L. Mullins, FACHE, president and CEO of St. John Health System and Ministry Market Executive, Ascension Oklahoma and Ascension Kansas. “Together, we’ll provide even greater patient access to services and ensure an overall outstanding patient experience through all stages of their care.”
GSI opened in 1983 as an independent specialty practice offering a full array of gastrointestinal treatments including colonoscopies, upper endoscopies, capsule endoscopies, infusions, medications, and dietary management. The team’s high-quality patient care has been recognized by the Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval for its performance standards in patient care, patient rights, and infection control.
“The alignment of GSI and St. John’s values and vision has been clear throughout this partnership process,” said John Hood, MD, gastroenterology specialist at GSI. “Our physicians and staff are excited to work collaboratively with St. John Health System and its affiliated physicians to provide excellent gastrointestinal treatment in our community.”
Jeffrey D. Nowlin, FACHE, president & COO of St. John Medical Center, says the joint venture will give capacity to St. John physicians as the need for GI services grows while keeping high attention to patient care.
“GSI’s more than 30 years of service to patients in Tulsa complements St. John’s nine decades of commitment to patient care in Tulsa and the surrounding communities,” said Nowlin. “We look forward to this new partnership and the expanded offering of comprehensive services to our patients and clinicians in Northeast Oklahoma."
