Tulsa Life Flight to Expand Services in Eastern Oklahoma
June 3, 2009 - Saint Francis Health System and St. John Health System along with Air Methods, Inc. are pleased to announce a new arrangement for the provision of Tulsa Life Flight services beginning June 1, 2009.
This new agreement allows Tulsa Life Flight to expand its services in eastern Oklahoma by implementing a community-based model for operations compared to the hospital-based operation that is currently in place. The community model will involve placement of two to three helicopters within a 50 mile radius of Saint Francis Hospital and St. John Medical Center, extending air ambulance service to more communities in our area allowing for faster medical response.
Lynn Sund, senior vice president, Saint Francis Health System says, “Tulsa Life Flight has been a vital part of our community since 1979 and has completed more than 43,000 accident free missions. Through this new agreement, Tulsa Life Flight will expand and continue the highest quality of emergency medical care to more people throughout eastern Oklahoma.”
Charles Anderson, chief executive officer, St. John Medical Center says, “The expansion of the Life Flight’s critical air ambulance service further advances our objective of bringing the hospital to the patient when time matters most. St. John Health System is pleased to be a part of Life Flight’s commitment to provide the highest quality patient care and safety during all aspects of the patient’s transfer.”
Dr. Lori Whelan, Medical Director of Tulsa Life Flight says “Air Methods is very well respected nationwide as a leading air medical care provider. We are very excited to be working with them to enhance the Tulsa Life Flight program to other parts of Oklahoma.”
Air Methods, Inc. has worked in partnership with Saint Francis Health System and St. John Health System to operate Tulsa Life Flight since 2002 by supplying the helicopters, pilots and maintenance of the aircraft. Under the new agreement, the company will now employ the clinical personnel and assume full operation of the program.
