St. John Opens Educational Child Care Services to the General Public
Selects Bright Horizons Family Solutions to Operate Chapman Child Care Center
Tulsa, Okla., July 2, 2012 – St. John Health System announced today that it will open its Chapman Child Learning Center services to the community, as a part of a new management arrangement with Bright Horizons Family Solutions®. Previously, the Center’s services were exclusively offered to St. John employees.
While St. John employees will continue to have priority enrollment, the new management arrangement will also help fill a gap in available high quality child care and early education programs for the community.
St. John Chapman Child Learning Center provides educational child care for children ages six weeks through four years of age. The Chapman Child Learning Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. This accreditation certifies that children experience the highest level of care and early educational experiences.

According to Bachman, the Chapman Child Learning Center has been an essential part of St. John’s ability to recruit and retain top health care and administrative professionals. St. John employees benefit from having a high-quality, convenient child care solution that helps integrate their professional and personal lives, while being fully able to concentrate on their patients and work.
Recent data continues to underscore the need for work/life benefits like child care in health care environments. A study by Horizons Workforce Consulting found a 97 percent retention rate of top performers using hospital-based child care centers, and an 89 percent reduction in voluntary turnover among child care center users in a health care setting.

Bright Horizons provides child care management services to more than 100 employer clients in the health care industry. It will operate the St. John Chapman Child Learning Center as it does each of its programs, according to the highest standards of excellence as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

The Chapman Child Learning Center is located on the St. John Medical Center campus at 1710 East 17th St., Tulsa OK 74104. It was established in 1959 by Sister Mary Clara, one of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother and director of pediatrics at St. John’s Hospital, later St. John Medical Center. Sister Mary Clara opened the center to ease staff concerns about finding and keeping adequate care for their young children. The center opened in 1959 as the Holy Family Day Care Nursery, accommodating 30 children. Since that time, the center has expanded several times to accommodate the growing demand for child care.
