Colorectal Surgery

When medication and other non-surgical treatments are unavailable or cannot relieve symptoms, surgery may be recommended for those with colon cancer, rectal cancer, diverticulitis, and inflammatory bowel disease.

The da Vinci® Surgical System offers patients a less invasive surgical option. Minimally invasive surgery provides several potential benefits compared with open surgery, including:

  • Less blood loss
  • Quicker return to bowel function
  • Quicker return to diet
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Excellent clinical outcomes for cancer control
  • Quick return of bowel function
  • Fast recovery time

As with any surgery, these benefits cannot be guaranteed, as surgery is unique to each patient and procedure. Please consult with your physician to determine if you are a candidate for minimally invasive surgery.

The da Vinci Surgical System is used to treat colorectal conditions, including:

  • Crohn’s disease
  • Colon cancer
  • Diverticulitis
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Rectal cancer
  • Ulcerative colitis

Procedures commonly performed with the da Vinci Surgical System include:

  • Colectomy
  • Low anterior resection, abdominoperineal resection (APR)
