St. John Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Rehab is a walking program designed to reduce limb symptoms, improve exercise capacity, prevent or lessen physical disability, and reduce the occurrence of cardiovascular events.
Walking is proven to be the best treatment for people with leg cramping induced by exercise, thereby increasing the distance of pain-free walking through the development of collateral circulation. Our team of exercise physiologists and nurses will assist you in offering support and encouragement in improving your overall quality of life.
Rehab will begin with an hour-long initial evaluation where we will discuss the details of the program, go over your medical history and discuss your current medications. This will be followed by a nurse evaluation and then a short walking test to give us a baseline of your exercise tolerance and symptoms experienced. PAD Rehab meets two to three times a week for exercise sessions that will last anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. We will monitor your walking and the onset of symptoms throughout your session. Space is limited; talk with your healthcare team to determine if this program is right for you.
