CANCER PATIENTS AND THEIR LOVED ONES ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN SUPPORT GROUPS OFFERED AT OCSRI and St. John.
Look Good Feel Better
Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, Look Good Feel Better is a free program that helps women manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatments. Volunteer cosmetology professionals teach skin care, makeup and nail care techniques with step-by-step makeover sessions and offer other beauty advice, such as how to deal with hair loss using wigs, scarves, hats and other accessories. All participants receive a selection of products furnished by The Personal Care Products Council.
OCSRI offers a weekly healing yoga class led by Nancy Morgan, a board-certified integrative nurse coach, mind-body medicine skills group facilitator and family cancer caregiver. Yoga has many benefits for cancer survivors, promoting relaxation, empowerment and well-being, and helping participants harness the mind-body connection for complete healing. Yoga also increases strength, range of motion and flexibility while boosting immune function, energy and pain tolerance. Healing yoga can detoxify and assist lymphatic drainage. Participants should bring their own mat, and props are encouraged but not required. All experience levels are welcome. The poses can be done on the floor as well as in a chair.
Led by Deborah Hendricks, APRN, CNP, AOCN, twice a month, OCSRI's smoking cessation class is welcome to all patients and/or family members who smoke. The class uses a support group format to help participants learn about successful behavioral techniques, medications and vapor alternatives, and share their personal journeys.
Registration is required for some classes. For more information about these and other support groups and networking communities at OCSRI, please visit www.ocsri.org/about/events or call 918-505-3200.
