Oncology Annual Report
November marks four years since St. John joined forces with Tulsa Cancer Institute to launch Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute, bringing a new level of cancer care to Oklahoma families. Our oncology program has grown immensely in that time. To read about recent developments, check out the latest annual report.
Commission on Cancer Accreditation
The Commission on Cancer, a quality program of the American College of Surgeons, challenges cancer programs to enhance the care they provide by addressing patient-centered needs and measuring the quality of the care they deliver against national standards. St. John Medical Center has been accredited by the Commission on Cancer since 1949, longer than any other hospital in Oklahoma.
Survivor Rehabilitation Program
St. John is proud to offer a unique rehabilitation program designed specifically for cancer survivors, to help them physically and emotionally heal from the side effects of cancer and associated treatments.
Look Good Feel Better
Look Good Feel Better is a free, monthly workshop for women undergoing cancer treatment. Volunteer cosmetology professionals teach skin care, makeup and nail care techniques with step-by-step makeover sessions.
DONELLA – OCSRIDonella Coday
When Donella Coday’s husband got a lung cancer screening at the advice of his doctor, she decided to get one as well, even though she did not have any symptoms. The screening showed a mass in her lungs. Thanks to the early detection, Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute was able to start her cancer care before it was too late.
CINDY – OCSRICindy Hess
Cindy Hess wouldn’t let Stage IV lung cancer get in the way of watching her nine grandchildren grow up. Through a friend’s recommendation, Cindy found a home away from home at Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute. Within a year’s time, her cancer was gone. “I just feel like I got so lucky that I ended up there,” she says.
The main campus of Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute is LEED-certified for eco-friendly design and features a wellness center, healing gardens, a mentoring area and bright, open spaces, allowing us to provide our patients contemporary care in an environment that promotes serenity.
Together, Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute and St. John Medical Center offer state-of-the-art therapy tools, such as CyberKnife, Elekta and TomoTherapy. Diagnostic services include MRI, CT and PET, as well as ultrasound, interventional radiology and mammography.
