St. John Medical Center Graduate Nurse Residency Program Honored
Oklahoma Nurses Association honors St. John Medical Center with Excellence in the Workplace Environment AwardThe Oklahoma Nurses Association has honored St. John Medical Center with the Excellence in the Workplace Environment Award for the implementation of St. John’s graduate nurse residency program.
The Excellence in the Workplace Environment Award, facilitated by the Oklahoma Nurses Association Committee on Professional Practice in the Workplace, recognizes work environments that empower nurses to deliver safe and effective patient care. St. John Medical Center was presented with the award during the 2005 Oklahoma Nurses Association awards luncheon in Oklahoma City.
St. John Medical Center instituted its graduate residency program in May 2005 to facilitate the transition of new graduate nurses to their roles as professional registered nurses. The program provides clinical learning experiences across the continuum of care, precepting, mentoring, weekly peer support and group social activities during a nurse’s first year at St. John.
“We are proud to be recognized for the graduate nurse residency program,” says Louise Talley, PhD, RN, program coordinator. “Our goal is to recruit new graduates who are seeking an organization that provides strong support for continuing professional development, retention and job satisfaction.”
The Excellence in the Workplace Environment Award was established in 2001. A total of seven awards have been presented to healthcare facilities since the award’s inception.
