As a part as its overall commitment to women’s health and care for expecting mothers, St. John Medical Center is launching an OB-GYN hospitalist program.
The OB-GYN hospitalist program brings an experienced team of board-certified obstetricians and gynecologists on-site to St. John 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Services include providing care in times of emergency prior to arrival of a patient's own physician, supporting the care of high-risk pregnancy patients and delivering babies for patients who do not have an obstetrician.
"Staffing St. John Medical Center with hospital-based OB-GYN physicians serves to enhance patient safety and improve the coordination and efficiency of care," said Charles Anderson, St. John Medical Center chief executive officer. "It also provides peace of mind for our patients since an OB-GYN is available at a moment's notice to step in to provide care."
According to Anderson, the addition of the dedicated OB-GYN hospitalist team is not intended to replace a woman’s regular obstetrician. Rather, the physicians will deliver babies if a patient's physician is unable to be present. The OB-GYN hospitalist group will also be available to handle emergencies that may arise.
“This OB/GYN hospitalist program demonstrates St. John’s commitment to quality care and innovation," said Nirupama De Silva, MD, St. John OB/GYN hospitalist. "The program not only improves the quality of care for our patients, but also serves to continue the St. John tradition of leading the way in the overall care of women."
St. John’s OB/GYN hospitalist program is offered in partnership with Ob Hospitalist Group, which staffs and manages programs throughout the United States.
