Sports Medicine

St. John Clinic, St. John Sapulpa Hospital and Tulsa Bone & Joint Associates have partnered with Sapulpa Public Schools to provide comprehensive sports medicine services to the school’s athletic programs. The program includes athletic trainer services and on-site physician coverage at sporting events. St. John Clinic’s Theron Bliss, MD, a fellowship-trained sports medicine physician, serves as the team physician.

Dr. Bliss visits the school weekly to work with and evaluate student athletes. Injured athletes who need further evaluation are scheduled for X-rays and follow-up exams at St. John Clinic, 1021 E. Bryan in Sapulpa.  Jason Griffin, MD, an orthopedic surgeon/sports medicine physician with Tulsa Bone & Joint Associates, provides operative and specialty follow-up services, if needed.

To complement the comprehensive sports medicine program, athletes, students, faculty and family members have convenient access to St. John Sapulpa. The hospital is less than a half-mile from the high school and is well-equipped to stabilize, examine, and provide treatment for athletic injuries, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In the event of an emergency, St. John Sapulpa emergency department physicians will coordinate the care of athletes with Dr. Bliss and other necessary physician specialists.
