Vascular access maintenance is a crucial part of dialysis treatment. Without clear access, patients cannot receive dialysis, increasing the risk of illness or death.

 WHEN YOU NEED THE LIFE ACCESS CENTER

  • Four weeks after access placement
  • Any change in the feel of your access
  • Any problems when using the access
  • Difficult or painful cannulation of the fistula
  • Any fever or chills (especially with a catheter)
  • Poor clearance on lab results
  • Arm swelling or hand pain

WHEN YOU VISIT THE LIFE ACCESS CENTER

  • Please do not eat or drink for six hours prior to visit
  • Bring current list of medications and allergies
  • Bring someone to drive you home (information on transportation assistance is available if you call ahead)
