Digital Mammogram

Jane Phillips Medical Center provides comprehensive imaging examinations of the breast, including digital mammography, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and MRI. Primarily, the center offers screening and diagnostic mammography examinations. These low-dose breast X-rays are capable of identifying the site of breast cancer early in its developmental stages, long before a lump can be felt.

Screening procedures usually take less than 30 minutes and can be performed at either Jane Phillips Medical Center's Imaging Services Center, 2661 SE Washington Boulevard, or at the medical center on the second floor in Imaging Services . Both facilities use state-of-the-art equipment designed to emit low radiation dosages similar to those obtained during a dental X-ray, are accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR)and passed the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) MQSA inspection. All mammography technologists are registered by the American Registry for Radiological Technologists and are credentialed or eligible for credentialing in mammography.

Breast Cancer Risk Factors
Breast cancer kills more than 40,000 Americans each year, but the disease can be cured if found and treated early. All women are at risk for developing breast cancer, but some factors increase your likelihood of developing the disease. Risk factors include a family history of cancer, a long menstrual life (early onset of menstruation and late menopause), not bearing children or having a first child after age 30, and chronic benign breast problems.

Having any or all of these risk factors do not mean you will develop breast cancer. However, women should be aware of their status and be alert for early signs of disease. To schedule a mammogram, call the Breast Imaging Center at 918-331-1598.
