Awards and Recognition


St. John Health System has been honored with an array of awards and recognition for the care we provide and for our commitment to the community.   


AWARDS

St. John Health System
  • For its role in promoting Insure Oklahoma during Cover the Uninsured Week in March 2009, the St. John Health System was nominated for a Champions of Health Award under the Champions of the Uninsured category.


Nursing

  • St. John Medical Center received Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in January 2010. The designation places St. John among the top 6 percent of hospitals in the country. Magnet designation recognizes nursing excellence and is considered the national gold standard for quality nursing care.
  • St. John Medical Center and vice president of St. John Nursing Jessie Dragoo each received prestigious awards during the 2009 Oklahoma Nurses Association awards luncheon.
  • St. John was given the Excellence in the Workplace Environment award, recognizing the positive work environments that support nurses in their delivery of safe, effective patient care. Dragoo receive the Excellence in Nursing Administration award, honoring those who are role models of consistently high quality nursing practices.


Pastoral Care
  • Sister Julie Manternach, director of pastoral care for the St. John Health System, was one of 41 hospital employees statewide to receive an Oklahoma Hospital Association (OHA) Spirit of Achievement Award during the 2009 OHA Annual Convention this past fall. Award recipients were chosen by their hospitals for exemplifying the Spirit of Achievement by working above and beyond to move a project or the organization ahead toward progress and success.


St. John Villas
  • Franciscan Villa received an Excellence in Action award in April 2009. Presented by My InnerView, an independent research company, the award honors senior care facilities that achieve high levels of excellence through overall customer or workforce satisfaction rates within the top 10 percent nationally.


Health Club
  • The St. John Siegfried Health Club won the following honors from the United States Water Fitness Association’s 2009 Top National Aquatics programs:
 - Ranked 19th among top 25 top aquatic programs in the United States Ranked second in Oklahoma for its aquatics program
 - Ranked third-highest wellness center in the nation for aquatics program
 - Brooke Rusher, aquatics program coordinator, was named one of the top aquatics directors in the U.S.
 
 
 Stroke Center
  • The St. John Stroke Center received the Get with the Guidelines (GWTG) Silver Award on February 25, 2010, recognizing more than 85 percent compliance in each of the program’s seven stroke achievement measures. The GWTG program focuses on quick diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients through primary stroke centers. The program utilizes care team protocols for patients upon admission through discharge. The program is designed to improve stroke treatment and prevent future strokes and cardiovascular events.


LaFortune Cancer Center
  • During FY 2009, the LaFortune Cancer Center received a grant from the Komen for the Cure Foundation for its wig loan program to chemotherapy patients.



ACCREDITATIONS

Stroke Center
  • The St. John Stroke Center received Joint Center accreditation in February 2009. It is the only certified stroke center in northeast Oklahoma.


Trauma Services

  • St. John Medical Center Trauma Services was verified as a Level II trauma center by the Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). The verification recognizes the trauma program’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.


Chapman Child Learning Center
  • St. John Medical Center’s Chapman Child Learning Center earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) – the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals – in November. Only about eight percent of the nation’s preschools and early childhood education facilities have earned NAEYC accreditation.



MILESTONES

Cardiovascular
  • St. John Medical Center’s average door-to-balloon time for 2009 was 66 minutes, well below the national average of 90 minutes.
  • St. John Medical Center was the second-largest participating organization in the American Heart Association’s 2009 Heart Walk on April 18, with more than 360 registered walkers and more than $19,000 raised.
