St. John Health System has been honored with an array of awards and recognitions for the care we provide and our commitment to the community.
St. John Health System
St. John Health System was honored as the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services’ Community Partner of the Year. St. John was recognized for Project SEARCH, an on-the-job training program that helps Oklahoma high school seniors with disabilities develop marketable skills and confidence.
St. John Health System was the second highest Tulsa-area fundraiser for the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk in 2012, raising more than $55,117. St. John Health System increased donations from 2010 by 77 percent, and was inducted into the American Heart Association $50,000 club.
Oklahoma Hospital Association recognized Ann Walton, director of the St. John Health Club, and Mark Hildebrand, head of St. John Sapulpa Rehabilitation Services with 2012 Spirit Awards. The Spirit Awards are given annually to those whose exemplary leadership and dedication have significantly enhanced patient care, their organizations or their communities.
St. John Medical Center
St. John Medical Center was ranked as a top Oklahoma hospital in U.S. News & World Report’s 2012-2013 Best Hospitals rankings. It was also named a 2012 Consumer Choice Award Winner by the National Research Corporation.
St. John Medical Center was also named by Oklahoma Magazine as one of the state’s “Best of the Best” hospital facilities.
St. John Broken Arrow
St. John Broken Arrow was recognized as a Det Norske Veritas (DNV)-accredited hospital after its inspection by the international organization’s review group. DNV’s accreditation is based on strict quality standards and signifies adherence with the Medicare Conditions of Participation, and integration with the ISO 9001 quality management system.

St. John Cardiac Rehabilitation
St. John Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehabilitation program was named a certified program through the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. The designation recognizes the efforts of St. John in the continued promotion of health and preventing disease.
St. John Heart Institute Cardiovascular Imaging (CVI) was reaccredited for a three-year term in both peripheral vascular and echocardiography labs. CVI passed a thorough review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) and the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL).
St. John Heyman Stroke Center
The St. John Heyman Stroke Center was honored February 13 at the 2014 International Stroke Conference in San Diego, CA.
The stroke center was one of only 15 hospitals to receive “triple crown” recognition from the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Stroke Association (ASA) for being honored with the AHA/ASA Get With The Guidelines Gold Plus Award for the fourth consecutive year, named to the AHA/ASA Target Stroke honor roll for the third consecutive year, and certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC) by the AHA/ASA and The Joint Commission.
The Quality Achievement Awards recognition event was held in Petco Park baseball stadium. Stroke team members Daryl Thompson, MD; Heather Lorenz, RN; Patrick Han, MD and Anna Wanahita, MD represented the St. John Heyman Stroke Center.
The St. John Heyman Stroke Center is eastern Oklahoma's first Joint Commission-certified comprehensive stroke center, recognized for highly-specialized stroke care. Comprehensive stroke center certification recognizes those hospitals that have state-of-the-art infrastructure, staff and training to receive and treat patients with the most complex strokes.
St. John Medical Center received the 2013 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award for the third consecutive year. The award is the highest level of recognition from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association and acknowledges St. John’s commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines.
The St. John Heyman Stroke Center was named to the 2013 Target: Stroke Honor Roll from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. Hospitals completing greater than 50 percent of the tPA--treat—treated stroke cases within the 60 minute recommended national standard are awarded honor roll standing.
The St. John Heyman Stroke Center received a 2011 national Power Award from the American Stroke Association. Power To End Stroke is an aggressive education and awareness campaign that embraces and celebrates the culture, energy, creativity and lifestyles of African Americans. It unites African Americans to reduce the high incidence of stroke within their communities.
St. John LaFortune Cancer Center
In 2014, LaFortune Cancer Center physicians gained access to the latest clinical standards and treatment protocols available anywhere in the world when St. John Medical Center became a certified member of the MD Anderson Cancer Network®, a program of MD Anderson Cancer Center. St. John is the first and only certified member in Oklahoma.
The rehabilitation department boasts the first STAR Program certification in Oklahoma, designed to help cancer survivors treat and cope with debilitating side effects caused by treatments.
The LaFortune Cancer Center was recognized by the American Cancer Society as a Cancer Prevention Study 3 epidemiology research program partner. The CPS3 follows the health of participants for more than 20 years to better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer.
The LaFortune Cancer Center is accredited by both The Joint Commission and the American College of Surgeons. The program received accreditation in 1949, the oldest in the state.
In 2012, the LaFortune Cancer Center hosted northeastern Oklahoma’s first mini Relay for Life benefiting the American Cancer Society. The St. John Mini Relay for Life is now an annual event.
The LaFortune Cancer Center team was recognized as "Rookie Team of the Year" at the 2011 American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
St. John Center for Women’s Health
St. John Center for Women’s Health and its LifeStart program were voted #1 by readers of TulsaKids Magazine. In 2012, you named us Favorite pre- & post-partum classes, favorite place to have a baby and favorite hospital.
St. John Breast Center
The St. John Breast Center is Tulsa’s only imaging center to be named Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). ACR recognizes breast-imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy). Peer-review evaluations, conducted by board-certified physicians and trained medical physicists, determined that St. John Breast Center achieved high standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
St. John Siegfried Health Club
St. John Siegfried Health Club was named as one of Oklahoma Magazine’s “Best of the Best” in the health club category.
The Oklahoma chapter of the March of Dimes awarded St. John Health System nurses Larcile White, Megan Gregg and Kelly Spann the 2011 Oklahoma March of Dimes Nurse of the Year award. Six additional St. John Health System nurses were award finalists, including Sunny Bray, Donna Longfield, Mary Martin, Gaye Rotramel, JoAnn Rushenberg and Brenda Sanders.
St. John Medical Center was officially accredited by the American College of Radiology in PET, nuclear medicine and ultrasound. The St. John Radiology location at 81st and Memorial was recognized as American College of Radiology accredited in CT, MRI, ultrasound and mammography.
St. John Green Team
The St. John Health System received the 2011 Blue/Green Giant Award at the Tulsa Business Journal's second-annual Blue/Green Awards. St. John won for Green Team and maintenance facility programs of recycling, and energy and material use reduction.
